California Dreamin’ Makes for Epic Nightmare

Watching election results, the obvious question for those of us in the Golden State is: What the [insert expletive here] is wrong with California?

The GOP tsunami hit an ideological wall as it hit our border – too bad we can’t keep illegals out as effectively as we exclude common sense. As one pundit said this morning, “California seems determined to pursue liberal statism to its logical conclusion (bankruptcy).”

The land of fruits and nuts lived down to its reputation, returning “Call me Senator” Boxer AGAIN – forging bravely ahead despite the state’s catastrophic economy with our own little (and by little I mean big) cap-and-trade to combat “global warming” – and, perhaps most puzzling of all… Governor Moonbeam is back in the saddle. (Buyer’s remorse may already be kicking in on that one.) All in all, kind of a post-Halloween Fright Night.

And as much as we can and will joke about Jerry Brown’s… uh… wackiness (polite term), the sad fact is that the Leftist freight train, effectively braked almost everywhere else (Massachusetts being another pathetic exception), is steaming full speed toward the cliff.

So what is wrong with California – or more precisely, California voters?

They have lived with this great experiment in Leftist agenda for so long that they have become willing pawns, utter dupes of the elites managing their lives. This is, of course, part and parcel of said Leftist agenda – to reduce the masses to obedient conformity. Manipulate the economic situation so that more and more people are dependent on government for necessities of life – and the threat to slow down the government goodie flow (as both Meg and Carly would have done) is seen as a grave threat.

I am not only talking about people literally “on the dole” – welfare recipients and the like, although surely California has more of those than any other state. I am talking about state government workers. The state has become the employer for far, far too many Californians, who rightly recognize the Democrats are their meal ticket.

In addition, the Democrats are ruthless in their attempts to race-bait in California. The “maidgate” debacle stands as testimony to this, as bigmouth Leftist Gloria Allred sacrificed her own illegal alien client (putting the woman at risk of prosecution) in order to paint a damaging picture of Whitman. (As I have pointed out previously, this had a bonus effect of painting Whitman as a unfeeling elitist.) To the Left, the means always justify the end, so it was “damn the torpedos” in an effort to focus attention away from the reality of failed Leftist policy and toward bogus bigotry. (The irony, of course, is that Allred exposed the woman after Whitman had protected her by not reporting her illegal status – and this after Whitman was lied to, as nobody disputes.) As was wisely pointed out at the time, what lesson were the Democrats trying to teach – that nobody should hire a Latino?

So in California you have a large group of people who are only a step or two away from the French union rioters – people who think it’s the government’s job to always provide them with [jobs, housing, food, healthcare, whatever]. And you have a large ethnic minority that has its collective chain yanked constantly by the Democrats. Throw in some of the most viciously powerful public sector unions in the country… the great Hollywood Left and an enormous cadre of wannabes desperate to emulate the immense coolness of their idols… and a city full of people who just banned Happy Meals (I’m talking about you, San Freakin-Crazy Fran).

Put it all together and what have you got -

How about a moving truck to Texas?
