NO. We do not need to "tone down the rhetoric" or "be more civil." THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

It's my opinion that the people who do the kinds of things that happened in Arizona today - who often claim they heard voices telling them to commit whatever heinous crime they undertake - may indeed be hearing voices. That makes them either demonically possessed or crazy. So the idea that several semi-prominent folks on the Left would blame Sarah Palin for this is beyond crazy. The idea that they would blame some bogus "climate of hate" would be laughable if it weren't so tragic, as these misguided folks actually DEMONSTRATE their hatred by every venomous word they speak. They apparently are unable to see the irony.

We do not need to "tone down our rhetoric." We do not need to "be more civil."

What we need is for the Left to grow up and begin arguing their politics on the merits of their ideas, instead of engaging in character assassination of everyone who disagrees with them.

I don't remember folks on the Right accusing Hinckley of being motivated by the Left's palpable hatred of Reagan. Too bad the Left can't take a lesson from that situation.
